Our Story

KUK SOOL WON™ is a comprehensive martial arts system derived from the rich and varied martial arts techniques and traditions practiced in Korea through the ages. Kuk Sool is a complete martial art that is dedicated to the cultivation of mental and physical strength and well-being, and to the preservation of the traditional art.

Since our founding, Kuk Sool Won Italy has had the opportunity to help students acquire skills, develop new techniques, and achieve their goals, both training and day to day life. Combining over 400 years of technique and tradition with current advances in modern defensive strategy, we provide a wide range of instruction in personal defense, open hand and weapons techniques, and competition sparring, as well as individualized coaching to support students from all backgrounds and levels. 

Based on techniques developed in Korea over centuries of warfare, Kuk Sool as it is practiced today was standardized by our founder, In Hyuk Suh, in 1961.  Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh spent more than 50 years in single-minded practice and research in order to learn, compile, master and organize the more than 3,608 techniques that comprise Kuk Sool. The National Martial Arts Association (Kuk Sool Won) was brought to the United States in 1974, and is currently headquartered in Houston, Texas. The association has since grown to include more than 1,000 member schools in Asia, Europe, Canada, the Middle East, and the Americas, and continues to grow in strength and numbers daily.
